Old Stump in the Way? We'll Grind It Below Grade.
Stumps trip mowers, sprout suckers and attract termites. Grinding gets rid of them so you can plant, sod or pave.
Ground below grade, surface roots chased out, grindings left or hauled — your choice.

Depends on diameter, roots and access. Multiple stumps on one visit cost less each.
How we handle stump grinding
Before we grind, utility lines get marked through 811. You point out sprinkler lines, septic and low-voltage lighting, because the locators don't mark private lines.
We grind below grade — usually 6 to 10 inches, deeper if you're planting a tree or pouring a slab — and chase the big surface roots that trip mowers. The grinder fits through most standard gates.
You choose what happens to the grindings: leave them to settle the hole, or we haul them off and backfill with soil so you can seed or sod.

Grinding in Huntsville Clay and Rock
Huntsville's red clay is heavy, and limestone sits close to the surface in places. Rock dulls grinder teeth fast, so we probe around the stump before we start.
After grinding, clay settles slowly. If you're putting down sod, we recommend hauling the grindings and backfilling with topsoil.
Pine stumps rot faster than oak, but they still take years. Grinding is quicker and cleaner.
We can usually grind the stump the same day we remove the tree, which saves you a trip charge. For older stumps already in the yard, we'll grind as many as you want on one visit and price them together.
What moves the price
- Tree height, trunk diameter, and canopy spread (a wide oak weighs far more than a straight pine of the same height)
- What sits underneath — open lawn where limbs can be dropped vs. roping every piece over a roof, pool cage, fence, or power drop
- Equipment access — whether a bucket truck can pull into the driveway or we need a narrow-gate lift, climbers, or a crane
- Wood and brush disposal — full haul-off of heavy trunk logs vs. leaving firewood rounds stacked on acreage
- Whether you want the stump ground below grade and surface roots chased at the same time

We come take a look.

You get a clear price before any work starts.

Why homeowners call us
- We actually answer the phone — or call back the same day.
- We look at the tree and yard access in person before quoting a real number.
- We tell you when structural pruning or weight reduction is enough instead of pushing a full removal.
- We lay down ground protection mats to protect your lawn, driveway, and sprinkler heads while we work.
- We rake up and haul off every branch and log before we call the job done.
What you can expect from us
Safe tree work comes down to rigging control, the right equipment for your yard, and a crew that respects your property.
We lower heavy limbs on ropes over roofs, fences, and pool enclosures instead of dropping them blind, and we clean up the yard before we leave.
If something doesn't look right when we're done, walk the yard with us before we pack up the truck.
Questions we get a lot
How deep do you grind?
Usually 6 to 10 inches below grade. Deeper if you're planting in the same spot.
What happens to the grindings?
You can keep them as mulch or we can haul them and backfill.
Will the stump grow back?
Most species won't once they're ground below grade. Some sprouters may need follow-up.
